This is our victory over a hard economic crisis caused by the Russian aggression. This year's Easter is a very special day, as it gradually brings confidence that the hardest challenges have already passed," Poroshenko said.

The president stressed that in order not to lose the good prospects, Ukrainians should ensure peace both inside the country and on its external borders.

The head of state told about his visit to Donbas on Palm Sunday, reminding that it is absolutely impossible to ensure peace without a highly professional army.

President's wife Maryna Poroshenko, in turn, emphasized that Easter is a holiday of great faith in the victory of good over evil. It is time when we should forget about the offences and troubles and live with bright thoughts and good intentions.

"Easter brings us together in a sincere prayer for peace and tranquility in Ukraine. So may Easter inspire us all for unity and righteous deeds!" she said.

This year Orthodox Christians are celebrating Easter today, April 8. On the eve, the Holy fire was traditionally delivered to Ukraine from Jerusalem.

Easter, also known as Resurrection Sunday, celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ after he was crucified. The resurrection of Christ is the basis of biblical theology.
