A resident of the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, IT expert Andriy Khvetkevych, has performed a 71-meter freedive without scuba gear and fins, having set Ukrainian and U.S. records.

Khvetkevych became interested in freediving by chance, while on vacation, according to the TV news service TSN.

After tremendous success at international competitions, he was invited to join the U.S. team.

The Ukrainian admits that the main thing in this discipline is control over own emotions, rather than the volume of lungs. He says some people lose consciousness amid or right after the dive because of a lack of oxygen, but this never happened to him.

Despite the invitation to join the U.S. team, the freediver says he intends to devote all his records to Ukraine.
