Ukraine marks Europe Day
Ukrainians are celebrating Europe Day, which appeared in the country 16 years ago and is celebrated every third Saturday of May.
"Today, there is only one way for Ukraine, and this way to Europe, away from Russia's imperial ambitions," outgoing Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko wrote on Facebook.
According to him, restoring historical justice, Ukraine is finally confidently and proudly following this path.
"After all, Europe is not a geographical characteristic, but a standard of living, respect for a person, his rights and freedoms. [EU-Ukraine] Association Agreement, [EU] visa-free travel, constitutional amendments confirming Ukraine's path toward EU, NATO – all these are important achievements of recent years, which clearly demonstrate that Ukraine's future is in the family of European nations! Happy Europe Day, Ukraine!" Poroshenko said.
