The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine on Wednesday confirmed the liquidation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate following the Unification Council held on December 15, 2018.

The statement of the Ministry of Culture reads that the UOC-KP ceased to exist by joining the Kyiv Metropolis of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU).

In particular, by order of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine of January 30, 2019, No. 54, the Charter of the Kyiv Metropolis of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) was registered.

Also, this order, on the basis of the decisions of the Local Council of the former UOC-KP dated December 15, 2017, invalidated the orders of the Ministry of June 12, 2017, No. 505 on the registration of the charter of the UOC-KP.

"Thus, based on the decisions of the Local Council of the UOC-KP dated December 15, 201, the religious association of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate ceased its activities, and the religious organization of the UOC-KP entered the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (OCU)," the Ministry of Culture said.

On July 30, Filaret appealed to the Ministry of Justice with a request to "extend" registration of the UOC-KP.

In June 2019, the honorary patriarch declared his disagreement with the Tomos's points on autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) provided by the Ecumenical Patriarchate and announced the revival of the UOC-KP.

In response, the Synod of the OCU deprived Filaret of the right to manage the Kyiv diocese of the Ukrainian Church.
