Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged heads of the Main Directorate of the National Police and the SBU Security Service of Ukraine in Zhytomyr region to quit due to the situation with illegal amber extraction across the region.

"I have statistics saying that the experts estimate the volume of the 'black market' of amber at $500 million a year, while the total loss is tens of billions of hryvnias," Zelensky said during a meeting on the illegal amber extraction as part of a working trip to Zhytomyr region, according to an UNIAN correspondent.

The president also called on chief of the National Police Serhiy Knyazev to dismiss heads of the regional police offices in two districts of Zhytomyr region.
