The diplomats are now safe and replacing stolen documents, while their car, money and personal items have not been retrieved, Ukraine Today reports.

The Ukrainian officials were providing consular assistance to other Ukrainian citizens, including those detained by the Libyan authorities since 2011.

An investigation of the incident is underway, although security issues in a war-torn country are one of the most prominent challenges that the local government has been facing, four years after the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi.
