Ukrainian diplomats attacked and robbed in Libya (Video)
Ukrainian diplomats were ambushed near the Libya capital Tripoli on May 22 on their way to Tunisia, losing their car, documents, and personal items to armed robbers, according to Radio Liberty.
The diplomats are now safe and replacing stolen documents, while their car, money and personal items have not been retrieved, Ukraine Today reports.
The Ukrainian officials were providing consular assistance to other Ukrainian citizens, including those detained by the Libyan authorities since 2011.
An investigation of the incident is underway, although security issues in a war-torn country are one of the most prominent challenges that the local government has been facing, four years after the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi.
