Ukrainian Deputy Health Minister Viktor Liashko has said Ukraine will get a large batch of rapid tests to detect the novel coronavirus at the end of the week.

According to the official, laboratories of the Ministry of Health, located in 11 regions, have tests for detecting coronavirus disease using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR).

"In the near future, on Saturday or Sunday, we expect another delivery of a large batch of PCR kits, which are a golden standard for diagnosing coronavirus and will allow to do over one million tests," he told a briefing on Thursday, according to an UNIAN correspondent.

According to him, there are express tests on the Ukrainian market and in healthcare facilities that allow ambulance doctors, family doctors or infectious disease doctors to quickly test patients, but the results of such studies must be confirmed in laboratories.

The official clarified such tests were available not only in state medical institutions, but also in private ones.

"In most cases, such express tests are purchased from distributors. And over 40,000 tests have already been sent across Ukraine... We expect the first delivery of a large batch on Saturday-Sunday to distribute tests to all areas," Liashko added.
