International Language Festival “Ecology of Communication” gathered together representatives of different nations and ethnicities who presented their native languages and cultures. According to the UN Office to Ukraine, the opening of the Festival in Kyiv was held on Friday, before that it was held in different cities of Ukraine – Hadyach, Komsomols’k, Lutsk, Lviv, Kharkiv, Cherkassy and Poltava.

Language Festival was held with an active participation of high-school and university students, scientists and professors of linguistics, ethnographers, historians, representatives of minorities, embassies and diasporas, representatives of UNESCO, travelers, journalists and others. The festival was organized by Karavan “INTERCULTURE” in Ukraine and Drahomanov National Pedagogical University.

On the 16th of May 2007 UN General Assembly proclaimed 2008 International Year of Languages in accordance with the resolution adopted by General UN Conference on the issues of education, science and culture.

UN General Assemble suggested to state officials, UN Systems and all other interested parties to develop, support and activate measures aimed at promotion of respect, support and protection of all the languages (especially the ones that are on the verge of extinction), linguistically diversity and multilingualism.
