Exclusive: Ukrainian engineers upgrade tanks for war
Ukraine Today reports from the largely abandoned former industrial park in the Kyiv suburbs, now the Azov battalion training base, where a new weapon is being developed, the one which could potentially revolutionize modern warfare.
The Russian-led war in eastern Ukraine has sparked the revival of volunteerism, including in the arms industry. This new tank named Azovets is not just a blueprint, it's almost ready for testing and use in the battlefield, Ukraine Today reports.
The new tank is equipped with 500 devices under its armor that explode when a grenade, rocket or armor piercing projectiles hits them. The engineering team (six people in total) believe that despite high price of approximately $500,000, the military will be interested in the project.
The team also plans to install a machine gun, rocket and grenade launchers, enough to help assault forces during offensive operations.
