A total of 90 people, including 83 children, were taken to hospitals of the Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine after measles vaccination (ZA 26-X vaccine) last week.
According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Emergency, on May 13 a 17-year-old boy died after measles inoculation in the Donetsk Oblast. Two days later, over 60 people in eastern Ukraine were hospitalized after vaccination.
Ukraine`s President Viktor Yushchenko said he was concerned over the teenager`s death and demanded from the Ukrainian Health Ministry to take all measures to prevent such instances in the future. On Saturday President Victor Yushchenko was informed by Minister of Health Vasyl Knyazevych about preliminary conclusions made by a special inquiry commission, initiated by the ministry to investigate death of a 17-year-old schoolboy Anton Tyshchenko from Kramatorsk, Donetsk region, after receiving measles vaccination.
By now, measles immunization has been halted in Ukraine.
