Victor Yushchenko told journalists Wednesday he insisted on the rehabilitation of those who heroically hoisted Ukraine’s flag in 1973 in Ternopil oblast, according to the President’s press-office.
“The history of the flag has many courageous and enlightening stories and events. I am happy we are celebrating this day,” he said.
The President said our flag united the whole Ukrainian community: “It symbolizes our national aspirations, which are being formed throughout Ukraine for the sake of the country`s solidarity and integrity, for the sake of Ukraine,” he said.
On August 18, the Head of State signed a decree to decorate those who raised the flag in Ternopil (1973) and Kyiv (1966) with the Order of Courage.
