Due to the slump in world prices, Ukrainian metallurgical industrial complexes cannot compete any more with Chinese and Russian producers, Kommersant reported. A month reserve of production has accumulated at storehouses of the companies. As of today, 17 out of 36 Ukraine’s blast furnaces have halted their operation, and metallurgists even consider the opportunity of total halt of the companies. If the government does not undertake urgent steps to support the metallurgical branch, the consequences may become deplorable: from non-fulfillment of the state budget and mass sackings to a global crisis of the Ukrainian economics, experts believe.

At present the production volumes have hit a four-years low.

The crisis in metallurgy will be considered today at a session in Metallurgprom production association. Representatives of the Industrial Policy Ministry and the largest metallurgical industrial complexes will take part.
