Russian gas export monopoly Gazprom said on Tuesday it has started talks over gas debt with Ukraine and will announce the results of the talks late on Tuesday, Reuters reported.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko dispatched a delegation to Moscow on Monday to discuss Ukraine`s gas debt to Russia, which Gazprom says amounts to $2.4 billion and Ukraine considers to be almost half of that.

Asked whether the talks have started in Moscow, Gazprom spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov said; "Yes, they have."
