The number of visitors of Ukrainian cinemas soared by 40% in Q1 of the year 2009 compared to the same period of the last year.

These data were forwarded to UNIAN by the Motion Picture Association (Brussels, Belgium) and BORIS collection system (Moscow, Russia).

In line with the information of the two organizations, since the beginning of the current year, 3 million 296 thousand people have visited Ukrainian cinemas, which is by 40% more than in the year 2008 (2 million 336 thousand people).

On the whole, during the first three months of the year 2009, the total proceeds from film distribution and exhibition made up 88 million 720 thousand hryvnias, which is by 70% more compared to the same period of the last year.

According to the organizations, the figures indicate a stable growth of the cinema market in Ukraine, despite earlier fears that there would be problems due to the introduction of compulsory Ukrainian dubbing of films.
