Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych discussed with Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iceland Valgerdur Sverrisdottir the prospects of bilateral cooperation, in trade-economic and investment areas, in particular, according to the government’s press-office.

      “Ukraine is interested in wider attraction of foreign investments, especially in the development of high-tech branches of the economy”, Viktor Yanukovych stressed.

      During the meeting an issue on signing Convention between the Ukrainian Government and the Government of the Republic of Iceland for avoiding double taxation and preventing fiscal evasion on income and capital taxes. According to the participants of the meeting, essential volume increase of foreign commerce shall be achieved by signing free trade agreement.

      Valgerdur Sverrisdottir noted that Iceland supports the idea of Ukraine’s accedence to the WTO. The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iceland also upholds widening cooperation in tourism. “The Icelanders show interest traveling in Ukraine because we are united by close historical relations”, she said.
