Bild refuses to publish Lutsenko’s refutation

He will have to turn to court again?

Axel Springer AG publishing house has no intent to publish a refutation of the article in the Bild newspaper about the incident with Interior Minister of Ukraine Yuri Lutsenko and his son Oleksander that happened in the Frankfurt airport on May 4.

Deutsche Welle reported this referring to a publishing house’s spokesman.

The spokesman confirmed that the publishing house really received an inquiry from Yuri Lutsenko’s lawyer with a demand to retract from the online website of the Bild a report published earlier about the son of the Ukrainian Minister, and to publish a refutation of a part of accusations.

However, Axel Springer AG, which is the owner of the Bild newspaper, refused the demand.

In line with the law on printed press of Berlin, periodicals may refuse demands of interested persons or institutions if they believe that these persons do not have any grounded interest in publishing the refutation. In such a case, the interested side should turn to court.

According to the information of Axel Springer AG, it did not receive any written ruling of court on the case, as of May 26. In case, if the publishing house receives the ruling, it will decide about its further steps.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on May 5, the Bild reported that in Germany at the Frankfurt airport the police detained drunken Yuriy Lutsenko and members of the Ukrainian delegation. A 19-year-old son of Yuriy Lutsenko, Oleksandr was allegedly drunk too, and resisted the police

On May 22, the Land Court of Berlin issued a ruling on the appeal of Oleksandr Lutsenko to the Bild newspaper and obliged the edition to publish the refutation drawn up by the minister`s son. In particular, Oleksandr Lutsenko asked in his appeal to refute information of the Bild on his drunk state at the Frankfurt airport.
