When asked if Ukraine was paying for Russian gas in time, Victor Yushchenko said the country had paid for the gas it consumed last January and February and was now negotiating the terms of March payment, according to the President’s press-office.

“We paid for everything we consumed last January and February and now we are speaking about the March. The two sides are negotiating sums, schedules and procedures,” he said.

Mr. Yushchenko also said Ukraine and Russia would sign an intergovernmental gas agreement when our country’s new government was formed.

“As soon as we form the new government, we will start talks to negotiate the terms of payment and supplies,” he promised.
