The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has appointed Oleksander Popov as Minister for Housing and Utility Economics of Ukraine.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, 248 out of 263 lawmakers, present in chamber, voted for him.

O.Popov was born in Kryvy Rih city of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast on 22 November 1960.

During February 1987 – April 1993 he served in KGB of Ukraine.

In 1994 he was elected as Mayor of Komsomolsk town of the Poltava Oblast. Since March of 2007, he has been deputy Minister of Building, Architecture, and Housing and Communal Economy of Ukraine.
