President wants Toloka `back on UT-1`
A special commission has been created at the Presidential Secretariat
A special commission has been created at the Presidential Secretariat to find out why the Toloka political talk show has been closed on Ukraine’s main television channel, UT-1, Victor Yushchenko’s chief of staff, Viktor Baloha, said on Thursday, according to the President`s press-office.
The President believes the program should not be closed only because its host is allegedly unprofessional or immoral, and without a proper and careful investigation, he said.
Yushchenko insists that “the Toloka political talk show be back on UT-1.” As a guarantor of civil rights and freedoms, he calls on television managers, as well as all other media bosses, to avoid measures that may be interpreted as a violation of freedom of speech or make journalists resort to political self-censorship.
