State Traffic Police Department warns that lately, especially in some regions (Kharkiv - Symferopol) frauds became more frequent. People, whose uniform is like inspectors’, extort money from drivers-foreigners for supposedly traffic rules violations, according to an UNIAN correspondent.
State Traffic Police Department press service noted that Traffic Policemen fulfill their duties only on service cars with national and State Traffic Police symbols, state license plates on patrol cars only against blue background. All the State Traffic Policemen have service certificates and badges.
State Traffic Policemen cannot demand and check documents, which are not provided by the Traffic Rules of Ukraine. The law provides a registration certificate of a vehicle presence, driving license, doctor`s certificate, obligatory insurance policy of civil proprietors’ liability of surface vehicles and those, who have driving warrant, must have temporary registration card for driving.
State Traffic Policemen can only make an administrative protocol for traffic rules violation, which will be considered further in a court.
If some doubt arises on person’s belonging, who pulled over a vehicle, to the State Traffic Department, a driver should inform the closest interior affairs department and call a State Traffic Department of Ukraine helpline: (044) 272-46-59.
