Former Sumy Oblast governor Volodymyr Shcherban asks the American court not to deport him, RFE/RL reports.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, V.Shcherban was arrested in USA on 12 October 2005 for violating the visa regime.

In Ukraine he is accused of committing a umber of grave crimes, such as misuse of office, abuse of authority, blackmail, embezzlement, and others.
On 20 October 2005 the American court refused to discharge V.Shcherban until a final decision about his deportation is made.
In the beginning of the year, Ukraine turned to USA with a request to extradite V.Shcherban to Ukraine.
