The Special Operations Department was created at the General Headquarters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Defence Minister Anatoliy Hrytsenko said this at a press conference in Sevastopol today.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, A. Hrytsenko said: “the decision is made by the Defence Minister and the leader of the General Headquarters, and a corresponding directive on creating the Special Operations Department at the General Headquarters has already been signed”.
The Minister noted that this new management body would coordinate and professionally unite all parties of special destination.
A.Hrytsenko also admitted that the department would ensure a systematic development of modern samples of armament and materiel of the most combat-ready units.
At the same time, the Minister stressed that a small detachment of special appointment, provided with modern equipment and armament, could fulfill tasks, which can be done by a whole brigade.
“Factually, a modern understanding of military actions character will seriously change the view, based on the centuries-old history. If earlier it were strategic formations, now we can say that a tactic formation at the level of 12-20 persons can fulfill strategic tasks and can reach the aim – to persuade a potential aggressor of Ukraine not to touch Ukraine without involvinf brigades and corps”. A. Hrytsenko said.
