Deputy Secretariat Chief of Staff Viktor Bondar on Wednesday said at a press briefing the government would restore the Volyn region’s areas hit by a tornado on Monday within the next two weeks, according to the President`s press-office.

Bondar said the residents of these areas were in an “information vacuum.” “They have not seen any relief efforts by the government so far. They have seen no presence of top officials. They did not know whether they would get any help or not,” he said and added that there was no electricity and no mobile phones worked in the affected area.

Bondar said he had chaired a meeting of the Volyn region’s emergency commission on July 24 which focused on how to deal with the aftermath of the natural disaster.

“The president of Ukraine has been following these events since the first day, being aware of its [the tornado`s] catastrophic consequences for the residents,” he said.
