At least three people died in a road accident in eastern Ukraine Monday, the Emergency Situations Ministry said, according to Xinhua.

Two cars crashed head-on at around 1:30 a.m. local time (2330GMT,Sunday) near Novaya Gnylitsa village in Kharkov region. Six passengers from both cars were critically injured, the ministry said.

The injured were sent to local hospitals, the ministry said, adding the reason for the accident remained unknown.

Preliminary reports said the accident occurred when the driver of one vehicle lost control and drove into the opposite lane.

More than 560 people have died in 3,300 road accidents in Ukraine since the beginning of this year.
