The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine has sent a letter to Prosecutor General Oleksandr Medvedko with a request to react to the government’s failure to fulfill its December 28/2006 decision to administer value added tax, Andriy Pyshnyy, deputy secretary of the Security Council, said at a press briefing on Wednesday, according to the President`s press-office.

Pyshnyy reprimanded the Yanukovych cabinet for accumulating a record VAT debt of about UAH 8.07 billion. He said no official information on VAT rebates was available and added that the cabinet must publish such data. He also said a draft tax code proposed by the cabinet of ministers “does not resolve the problem but conserves it.”
