Safari park to appear in Kherson region

President Victor Yushchenko has suggested establishing a nature reserve in the Nyzhnyodniprovsky Piski area, according to the President`s press-office.

He said at a rally to restore the Kherson region`s burnt forests on Saturday it was Europe’s only desert and described the territory as “unique.” “I am convinced it is time the state started protecting this desert and made it a national [safari] park,” he said, urging the government and regional authorities to draft a decree to found it. 

Yushchenko also said that all illegal projects implemented in the desert would be suspended and those involved in them punished.
