President urges power plants improvement

In his letter to Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych President Victor Yushchenko raised an issue of the Ukrainian nuclear power plants modernization, according to the President`s press-office. He urged V. Yanukovych to put on Government’s agenda an issue of new, modernized nuclear reactors implementation with the aim to “elevate the levels of energy and ecological security in our country”.

Government is also to create the workgroup on this issue. This workgroup must inter alia produce a decision on expediency and possibility to implement and use САNDU type Canadian nuclear reactors in Ukraine.

V. Yushchenko requested V. Yanukovych to inform him on the workgroup findings before April 30, 2008.
