Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko stresses that 2008 Draft Budget provides significant wage and pension raise. The Head of Government stated at the meeting with the leader of the Party of Regions faction Viktor Yanukovych, according to the government’s press-office.

The Prime Minister noted that the Cabinet of Ministers is pressed for time to draw up a 2008 Draft Budget. At that, according to Yulia Tymoshenko, in the Draft Budget Government has “considerably optimized revenues and expenditures and provided for increase of resources for social payments”. “We haven’t worsened social showings but quite the contrary improved it,” she said. “The Budget contains only good news,” Yulia Tymoshenko noted during the discussion with Viktor Yanukovych.

Besides, the Head of Government emphasized that Draft Budget for the coming year provides funds for repaying the citizens of Ukraine savings of the Oshchadbank of the USSR. According to her, 60 percent of depositors will get their savings in the next year, remaining debts to depositors will be returned over the year of 2009.

Additionally, according to the PM, new Government has forecasted all anti-inflation measures to prevent price rise of goods and services as a result of repaying savings. At the same time, Yulia Tymoshenko said that opposition should also join to improvement of the 2008 Budget.

“I want us to show that opposition and the authority can jointly work at budget”, Yulia Tymoshenko noted.

The Head of Government stressed that Minister for Finance Viktor Pynzenyk would appeal to Mykola Azarov which is responsible for financial and budgetary issues in an opposition government with the purpose that opposition and government worked out a common draft of the main financial document of the state.
