Today Ukraine marks the Reunion Day.

The solemn Act of the Reunion of the Western-Ukrainian People’s Republic (ZUNR )and the Ukrainian People’s Republic (UNR) into a single state of Ukraine was declared by the UNR Directoria on 22 January 1919 at the Sofiyska Square in Kyiv.

The Western-Ukrainian People’s Republic was created on 1 November 1918 by a mass movement of the Ukrainian intelligentsia and military men at the territory of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire in Halychyna (a region in the western Ukraine). The first capital of ZUNR was Lviv, later – Ternopil, and since January 1919 – Stanislav (now Ivano-Frankivsk).
