Ukraine's Health Minister Maksym Stepanov says his ministry has started deploying makeshift hospitals for coronavirus patients.

"We are now starting to prepare for deploying makeshift hospitals for coronavirus patients. The situation is more serious than ever since the beginning of the epidemic," he said, according to Ukraine's TSN TV news service.

To date, 21,000 beds out of 37,000 are occupied by those infected with the coronavirus. Some 900 patients were hospitalized in the past day alone. These are people with the severe clinical course of the disease and they cannot be treated at home.

The minister calls on Ukrainians to abide by anti-epidemic measures.

According to Stepanov, the situation with the spread of the coronavirus may quickly get out of control in case of neglecting the quarantine rules.
