Militants fire 122mm howitzers, 120mm mortars on Avdiyivka’s residential areas
Russia-backed militants attacked Ukrainian army positions and civilian areas in eastern Ukraine 40 times from Sunday evening to midnight, using banned weapons 13 times, the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) wrote on Facebook on Monday.
Using 122mm artillery systems, 120mm mortars and tanks, the militants traditionally were active after dark. They fired mortars on ATO forces near the villages of Kamianka, Opytne, Pisky, and Novotoshkivske. They also fired artillery systems on Ukrainian army positions near the village of Verkhniotoretske.
According to the report, Russia-backed militants also fired mortars and small arms on ATO forces near the towns of Avdiyika and Zolote, as well as the villages of Lozove and Stanytsia Luhanska.
As of 06:00 Kyiv time on July 13, the militants had already fired 120mm mortars on the positions of the Ukrainian armed forces near the villages of Verkhniotoretske, Troyitske, and Mayiorske. In addition, they fired 122mm artillery systems on the town of Hirnyk in Donetsk region.
At the same time, pro-Russian gangs continue firing artillery systems on residential areas in Donbas towns. At 22:55 Kyiv time on July 12, they started firing 122mm howitzers on residential areas of Avdiyivka and continued for half an hour. At 05:17 Kyiv time on Monday, they were shelling the town, using 120mm mortars.
"The shelling of civilians by armed groups shows that the members of these organizations are simply murderers and looters. Dissatisfaction with frank banditry in the militant-occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions is growing every day. People want peace, not war and a pseudo-Khanate," the press center said.
