The airspace and sea waters were closed during the launch.

National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov was present at a landfill. He noted that a very important and ambitious stage of firing tests of Ukrainian missiles had been completed in accordance with objectives of the program approved by the NSDC.

"Unlike Russian counterparts, Ukrainian missiles are guided missiles, and therefore they are more efficient and hit the target more accurately, which has been proven during the tests," Turchynov said.

"Our scientists, design engineers and manufacturers have dedicated today's successful missile launches to the 25th anniversary of Independence of Ukraine," the NSDC Secretary added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, in January 2016, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko announced the implementation of a number of strategically important projects, namely, modern Ukrainian-made high-accuracy missile complex Vilkha, as well as a cruise missile on the basis of technical solutions of the Neptune project. The president stressed those plans needed funding and the implementation within a specific timeframe, and should not be restricted to only words and appeals.
