"Assistant Secretary Mitchell convoked #Russia Chargé Zhirnov to answer for the Kremlin’s attempts to use social media accounts to promote violent and divisive causes in the U.S. – we will not tolerate this aggressive interference," White House spokesperson Heather Nauert wrote on Twitter Sunday.
"We applaud @facebook’s actions targeting malign activity and demand that #Russia and other actors immediately cease their reckless behavior fomenting division and violence. We will not tolerate foreign, incl. Russian, attempts to subvert our democratic processes and institutions," Heather Nauert wrote.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Facebook deleted dozens of accounts allegedly managed from Russia. These accounts misled the U.S. public while their admins concealed their true identity and the goals of their actions.
