Russia may ban entry of thousands of foreigners for 10 years

"The reason for the ban on entry is the violation by foreigners of the period of legal residence in the Russian Federation," he said.

"This Saturday new amendments to the legislation will come into force,” Romodanovskiy said.

“According to the Russian Federal Migration Service, nearly three million foreign nationals who are now in Russia have already exceeded the legal term of stay - 90 days.

“If the excess amounts to 120 days, their entry will be closed for three years. If the excess amounts to 270 days, their entry will be closed for five years. And finally, if they have stayed illegally more than 360 days, they will be banned [from entering Russia] for 10 years,"
