Russia cannot forbid Ukraine to become a member of the North-Atlantic Alliance.
U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine William Taylor claimed this at a briefing for journalists today.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, the Ambassador pointed out that none country, which is not a NATO member, cannot have the right to veto the decision on Ukraine’s joining NATO MAP.
He also stressed that Ukraine is an independent democratic country, and USA, as well as other NATO members, respect the sovereignty of Ukraine. W.Taylor also pointed out that Ukraine, being a sovereign state, may decide independently whether to enter the Alliance. He stressed that the decision to submit an application for MAP is “not American, not European, not Russian, this is the decision of Ukraine”.
At the same time, he added that both NATO and Ukraine should keep neighbor relations with Russia.
