Local media released photos of the fragment, which was reportedly brought from the insurgent-controlled area of the Donbas by a Russian veteran's organization, Ukraine Today reports.

In a controversial move, the museum plans to make the fragment part of an exhibition commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two.

MH17 was shot down over the eastern Ukrainian region of the Donbas amid armed conflict in July last year, killing all 298 passengers and crew.
