The number of deaths from the novel coronavirus originating from China's Wuhan has risen to 2,979.

As of March 1, there were 86,986 cases in total confirmed globally with 218 deaths outside mainland China, according to the Coronavirus COVID-19 Global Cases dashboard by the CSSE at Johns Hopkins University.

Some 42,294 people have recovered.

As of Sunday morning, there were 3,526 cases confirmed in South Korea, 1,128 in Italy, 593 in Iran, 241 in Japan, 102 in Singapore, 100 in France, 95 in Hong Kong, 79 in Germany, and 71 in the United States.

Coronavirus cases were reported in 37 countries.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the outbreak was first reported late in December 2019.
