Ukraine’s membership in NATO isn’t targeted against Russia and its interests, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vladimir Ogryzko told the reporters after negotiations with his Russia’s counterpart Sergei Lavrov, according to Kommersant.

"Ukraine in NATO won’t be Ukraine against Russia. The membership in the organization isn’t targeted against interests of the Russian Federation,” Ogryzko said, reminding that the Ukrainian constitution bans from stationing any foreign military bases on its soil. Kyiv has rejected nuclear potential and don`t want it back, the minister pointed out.

“We won’t secure safety for the sake of other nations. In our opinion, the NATO membership corresponds to our interests and secures collective safety for Ukraine,” Ogryzko explained, reiterating that Ukraine will spare no efforts to have perfect relations with Russia in all respects.
