Ukraine trying to unite world around “problem of Russia’s aggressiveness”
Ukraine’s representative to UN comments
Ukraine has been trying to unite the world community around the “problem of Russia’s aggressiveness”.
Ukraine’s permanent representative to UN, ambassador Yuri Sergeyev claimed this in an interview with RFE/RL, commenting on the statement of Ukrainian Foreign Ministry about the anti-Ukrainian statements of some Russian officials, which was given the status of official document of the U.N. General Assembly.
“By means of this statement of Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, we express our concern about the statements of higher officials of the Russian Federation, questioning territorial integrity of Ukraine and directly interfering into domestic affairs of the country”, Yuri Sergeyev said.
According to him, “through this statement we wanted, first of all, to inform the international community about the aggressiveness of our northern neighbor, which has been constantly repeated”. He recalled that in 1994, Ukraine had to use its right and call the UN Security Council, because of the Russian encroachment on the Crimea and Sevastopol. “That time the aggressiveness of Mr. Kozyrev [that-time Foreign Minister of RF] and the whole team of Russian politicians was stopped. But it has been constantly repeating. And it repeats again”, Yu.Sergeyev noted.
According to him, through this statement, Ukraine Foreign Ministry would like to create an international solidarity and to stop anti-Ukrainian statement by Russian officials. “The aim of this statement is to create an international solidarity around the problem that, unfortunately, is not present-day – it has its history”, Yu.Sergeyev added.
