In his address at the meeting with delegates from the North Atlantic Council and NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, President Victor Yushchenko pointed to substantial progress on many directions of Ukraine-NATO cooperation after NATO Bucharest Summit, according to the President`s press-office.

According to him extremely important was the decision adopted by the Alliance on June 13 opening possibility for Ukraine to join NATO rapid reaction force. “It is the first decision of such kind in the history of our relations with the Alliance. It’s importance for development of our contribution into strengthening European and global security and stability is tremendous”, - said Victor Yushchenko.

President also reminded of the decision on Ukraine’s participation in British-French initiative in maintenance and modernization of helicopters and training for crews and technical personnel, which had been approved on May 15 during President Yushchenko’s visit to Great Britain. “We aim to develop that dimension of our cooperation. Ukraine will continue to actively work with the Alliance in providing transportation and fulfilling other needs in peacekeeping operations, which NATO is responsible for”, - he said adding that these facts of cooperation development prove that Ukraine reaffirms its eagerness to be a contributor of global security promotion.
