Moscow reveals details of death of Russian military in Syria
Russian “military adviser” killed in Syria has died from severe wounds, received during the shelling of the Syrian army training center in the province of Homs, according to the head of the press service of Russia’s Defense Ministry, Igor Konashenkov, Novaya Gazeta wrote.
According to the report, Syrian cadets got under mortar attack along with the Russian adviser. Four of the cadets were killed in the attack by Islamic State, said the ministry’s official. The Russian officer was seriously injured and 1 February died in hospital.
General Konashenkov refused to disclose the name of the killed officer citing security-related issues.
According to Syrian sources, the shelling of a training center in Homs occurred on January 26. On the same day, two terrorist attacks took place on the city streets. Nearly a hundred residents of Homs were injured, 20 people were killed.
As UNIAN reported earlier, the Russian military adviser was killed in Syria in a mortar attack by the Islamists.
