U.S. President George W. Bush congratulated Victor Yushchenko on the formation of Ukraine’s new government, according to the President’s press-office.

Mr. Bush recognized “how difficult and challenging this process has been over the past several months” and commended his Ukrainian colleague for reaching an agreement through peaceful political means, in accordance with the Constitution.

“Ukraine is at a critical moment in its development as a democratic, market-oriented nation. Your continued leadership is vital to securing and advancing Ukraine’s political and economic gains,” he said.

The U.S. Head of State said the United States was committed to helping consolidate Ukraine’s sovereignty, democracy, prosperity, and independence.

“I look forward to our continued cooperation to help advance Ukraine’s economic reforms, enhance its energy security, combat corruption, and deepen Euro-Atlantic ties,” he added.
