Russia retains right to retaliate against U.S. sanctions prolongation – Russian Foreign Ministry

"It is time Washington realizes the futility of its sanctions policy and the danger of the whole confrontation course with regard to Russia. We reserve the right to retaliate with measures which we believe will meet Russia's interests," the ministry said in its statement.

As UNIAN reported earlier, U.S. President Barack Obama extended sanctions against the Russian Federation.

The document published by the White House continues the "national emergency" introduced in connection with Russia's attempts to undermine democratic processes in Ukraine, violate its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
