Chairman of US Senate Foreign Relations Committee Richard Lugar ranked Russia on a par with Iran and Venezuela as ‘hostile regimes’ which used energy resources to pressure on the neighboring countries, according to Ukrayinska Pravda.

He made a speech dedicated to the new ‘energy threats’ for the US national security at Tuesday International Energy Summit.

“Energy becomes the best amour for energy-rich countries,” urged the Senator, warning about threat of ‘forced’ usage of energy resources in foreign relations.

“The countries which faced cut in energy supplies or threat of it may fall into despair, enhancing probability of armed conflict, terrorism and economic collapse,” added Lugar.

Early this year Russia has intimidated Ukraine to cut gas supply.

Richard Lugar was a US President representative for Ukraine’s presidential campaign in 2004.
