Crown Princess Mette-Marit tripped and fell on some stairs while on an official visit to Ukraine on Monday. The incident resulted in cancellation of her morning program.

The Norway`s crown princess is in Kyiv as part of her ongoing efforts to help people suffering from HIV/AIDS. She was due to visit a center for HIV/AIDS patients Monday morning.

Instead she fell and hit her head during a meeting with the organization All-Ukrainian Network, for persons who live with HIV or AIDS.

The fall prompted officials to insist on a doctor`s examination. She then was said to be resting at her hotel, but Aftenposten.no reported that she was expected to resume her program later in the afternoon.

It`s not the first time Crown Princess Mette-Marit has had unfortunate incidents connected to official foreign trips. One of her first official visits, to Germany, was cancelled after she suffered severe sunburn during a TV interview. Earlier this year a scheduled trip to Chile was cancelled after she fell ill.

Her trip to Ukraine is part of her role as a special envoy for the United Nations. It`s her fourth trip for UNAIDS, the organization that coordinates HIV/AIDS work in the UN. She earlier has traveled to Canada, Nicaragua and Malawi to encourage tolerance and acceptance of HIV/AIDS patients.
