Ukraine has stopped electric power imports from Russia, the press secretary of the Fuel and Energy Ministry, Fent Di, told Itar-Tass.

“The imports were suspended on December 1,” he said.

Ukraine began to import Russia’s electric power in mid-September. However, the world economic crisis led to the reduction in consumption of energy resources in Ukraine, including of coal, gas and electric power. As a result, Ukraine even temporarily shut down one of the six reactors of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.

As of November 1, Ukraine imported 637.5 million kWh 44 million US dollars worth.

In 2007, Ukraine did not import electric power from Russia.
