Ukraine and European Union to sign broad agreement
On partnership and cooperation
Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, who stays with his working visit in Brussels, had a meeting with European Commission President José Manuel Barroso, according to the press-office of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
During our talks with European Commission President Mr. Barroso, we came to the same conclusion, that Ukraine and the EU will follow along the complicated way in order to achieve strategic aim of Ukraine, that is accedence to European Union, as Viktor Yanukovych noted in his statement for the journalists.
Principal directions of this way will be defined at the broad agreement on partnership and cooperation between the EU and Ukraine. This document will be worked thorough in 2007, stressed Head of the Government.
The parties agreed that the EU will widely support Ukraine in the process of accedence to the WTO. Creation of free trade zone between Ukraine and the EU is the next to be discussed. But before Ukraine should complete important institutional reforms.
In his turn European Commission President José Manuel Barroso announced that European Union shows preference for none political power or politician but stands for democratic values, openness and transparency. Devotion to these values was the thing I felt while talks with Viktor Yanukovych, José Manuel Barroso was quoted as saying.
European Union is not interested in Ukraine being the place of tension and supports maintaining neighbourly partnership between Ukraine and Russia, assured President of the European Commission.
