Merkel, Sarkozy expect quick solution in gas row
Urge Russia to fulfill its contracts
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Thursday that she expected quick results from Ukraine and Russia in settling their gas dispute.
"We expect the talks between Ukraine and Russia to yield quick results," Merkel said at a news conference in Paris with French President Nicolas Sarkozy. She added that she expected Russia to fulfil its gas delivery obligations.
In his turn, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Thursday that Russia must fulfill its contracts to deliver gas to Europe despite itsdispute with Ukraine.
"The Russians must respect their contractual obligations to the Europeans," Sarkozy told a joint news conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Paris.
