The President reiterated that Ukraine saw Russia as its strategic partner

Victor Yushchenko has met with Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who is visiting Kyiv to take part in a meeting of the sub-committee on international cooperation of the Ukraine-Russia Commission, according to the President`s press-office. 

The President reiterated that Ukraine saw Russia as its strategic partner. He said it was important to intensify our dialogue in order to improve and enhance bilateral relations.

Mr. Yushchenko and Mr. Lavrov discussed preparations for the first meeting of the Ukraine-Russia Commission. They spoke about border and Trans-dniester issues. Mr. Lavrov promised the President to help rebury the ashes of Oleksandr Dovzhenko, the world’s most famous Ukrainian film director. He also suggested that Ukraine and Russia jointly mark the 200-year anniversary of Mykola Gogol.
