Victor Yushchenko and Romania’s President Traian Basescu have attended a ribbon cutting ceremony to open a border bridge over the Tysa River and a Solotvyno-Sighetu Marmatiei border crossing station, according to the President`s press-office.

The Ukrainian leader said the event was “one of Ukraine’s many roads to Europe.” He thanked his Romanian colleague, diplomats and builders. He said the opening of the “historic bridge” between Solotvyno and Sighetu Marmatiei and the well-equipped border station was a practical result of constructive and effective cooperation between Ukraine and Romania. Mr. Yushchenko also congratulated Mr. Basescu and the people of Romania on joining the European Union.

The Romanian leader said Ukraine, Romania and the European Union had all contributed to the construction of the station. He said the event showed that Romania "is one of the uniting links on Ukraine’s path to the European Union."
